Paul Blasco
Architect Paul Blasco graduated at the University of the Philippines - Diliman as best thesis. He was one of the recipients of the 2008 Philip Recto Design Excellence Award. In 2009, he represented the university in Archiprix International, a competition of the world’s best graduation projects.
He has been involved in several projects that promote Philippine architecture and its discourse. Among which are: the co-founding of Arkitekturang Filipino Online - A Database of Philippine Architecture; the co-establishment of Contempo: A Contemporary Filipino Architecture Photography Competition; and the co-founding of the informal group Disenyo which led to Disenyo Dialogues, a series of talks in Manila and Cebu that promote the exchange of ideas between young designers.
In his early years, Paul Blasco has been involved in several competitions that challenge the status quo. This culminated with his finalist entry to AVID 2014, The Carve, that questions the design of museums and buildings, in general. Since then, he has stopped participating in conceptual competitions and dedicated all his efforts in designing real-world projects.
Prior to establishing his company, Paul Blasco has worked for the Singapore-based architecture firm, A+P GRP. He worked on large scale developments such as Bai Hotel in Cebu and a 2-tower, 19-storey condominium in Myanmar. These exposures gave him the experiences to tackle hospitality developments later in his own company.
Paul Blasco has also worked for the firm of National Artist Leandro V. Locsin, an internationally acclaimed architecture firm in the Philippines. It was his experience with Locsin that has helped refine his design philosophy and his approach to contemporary Philippine architecture. This legacy is alive in his current practice as he constantly explores ways to create spaces with a poetic dimension.
As a dedicated professional, Paul Blasco contributes to the architectural field by writing for various publications and participating in public talks whenever the opportunity arises.
